It looks like the “Harry Potter” reboot series may have found its Hagrid, and while we don’t know how he is with animals, we know he’s great at fighting zombies and aliens alongside his friend Simon Pegg. According to Deadline, Nick Frost is close to making a deal to become Hogwarts’s next Care of Magical Creatures professor, Rubeus Hagrid.

The late Robbie Coltrane portrayed Hagrid in all eight “Harry Potter” films. He’s a half-giant and a friendly sort. Among other things, it’s Hagrid who first transports the young Harry Potter to Hogwarts.

HBO has chosen not to officially comment on whether or not the reports of Frost’s casting are true, but Frost has not seemed as committed to keeping things under wraps. Fans on social media have noted that Frost has begun following confirmed series regulars on Instagram like John Lithgow. Then there was Frost’s cryptic Instagram post last week which included a selfie with the caption “It’s happening, it’s actually happening. Stay cool.”

Nick Frost is best known for his genre comedy collaborations with Simon Pegg including “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz,” “The World’s End,” “Spaced,” and “Paul.” More recently he voiced the pirate droid SM 33 in the “Star Wars” series “Skeleton Crew.”

Frost is just the latest in the growing list of talent attached to HBO’s “Harry Potter” reboot. John Lithgow (“The World According to Garp”) was recently cast as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (“Me Before You”) will play Professor Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu (“I May Destroy You”) will be Professor Severus Snape.

Frost will no doubt face scrutiny from some fans over choosing to be a part of the “Harry Potter” reboot, because of the polarizing views of creator J.K. Rowling.

The release of the eight “Harry Potter” films spanned from 2001 and 2011. Likewise, the upcoming “Harry Potter” series is designed to last over a decade.

Frost’s other upcoming projects include the live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon” which his theaters on June 13. He’ll also star in the upcoming comedy “Grow” and the teen horror flick “Whistle” about teenagers who summon their own deaths by blowing an Aztec death whistle. He’ll also play the live-action version of the popular British cartoon figure, Captain Pugwash in “Pugwash.”
