Saturday’s qualifying session was chaotic, with two drivers failing to record a time in Q3. That’s led to a very different starting grid than usual, including the fact that this is the first race all season where at least one McLaren car won’t start in the top four.
Max Verstappen will fire off from the pole in search of his second consecutive win. A Verstappen victory would make this the first time all season that McLaren has had consecutive races without a win.
Williams driver Carlos Sainz Jr. had his best qualifying effort of the season and will start second. Liam Lawson and Andrea Kimi Antonelli start on Row 2, followed by a Row 3 consisting of George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda. Lando Norris starts seventh, with Isack Hadjar starting in eighth.
Championship leader Oscar Piastri crashed in qualifying and will start in ninth, his worst starting position of the season, while Charles Leclerc starts 10th. Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton failed to advance to the final round of qualifying. He will start Sunday’s race in 12th place.
