After opening-day victories, the Dominican Republic’s Leones del Escogido and Mexico’s Charros de Jalisco will square off at Estadio Nido de las Águilas in Mexicali, continuing the action in the 67th edition of this prestigious tournament.
The Leones del Escogido, managed by legendary slugger Albert Pujols, kicked off their Caribbean Series campaign with a dominant 2-0 shutout win over Venezuela’s Cardenales de Lara on Friday. The Dominican squad leaned on strong pitching and timely hitting to secure the win, showing they have all the tools to make a serious championship run.
Pujols, who knows a thing or two about winning on the big stage, has this team playing with confidence and discipline, and they’ll be looking to build on that momentum against the hometown favorites.
Meanwhile, Mexico’s Charros de Jalisco put on an offensive clinic in their tournament opener, cruising to an 8-1 win over Puerto Rico’s Indios de Mayagüez. The home crowd in Mexicali was electric as the Charros dominated from start to finish, showing off the firepower that makes them a serious contender in this year’s tournament.
With the crowd behind them once again, Mexico will look to keep their bats hot and hand the Dominican Republic their first loss.
