The Boilermakers have won both of their NCAA Tournament games over High Point and McNeese by double-digit points, making it look easy. They now face a much tougher challenge in the Sweet 16 against the top-ranked team in the Midwest Region. Houston dismantled SIU Edwardsville in the Round of 64 and followed it up by holding off Gonzaga in the Round of 32, advancing with an 81-76 win.
Trey Kaufman-Renn is a fantastic forward for Purdue, scoring 20-plus points in five straight games. He dominates the game on the glass (15 rebounds in their last game), and can take over the game from a scoring standpoint as efficiently as anyone in college basketball (7-12 from the field and 8-10 from the line in their last game). If he gets it going early and gets Houston in foul trouble, the Cougars will have a long night ahead of them trying to slow Kayfman-Renn down.
L.J. Cryer exploded in Houston’s last game, scoring 30 points on 6-11 shooting from the three-point line. Cryer is a senior with extensive experience in the NCAA Tournament. He led the team in scoring this season with 15.6 points per game and will look to remain the hot hand as his team tries to advance to the Elite Eight.
