The No. 7 seed Illinois Fighting Illini (21-11) and the No. 2 seed Maryland Terrapins (24-7) will meet in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday.

The lone time these two teams met during the regular season, the Terrapins came out on top with a 91-70 win. Julian Reese torched the Fighting Illini with 27 points, and Derik Queen also had himself a game with 25 points on 10-13 shooting from the field.
Illinois is hot right now having won four consecutive games, so this could be in line to pull off the potential upset. In order to do so, Kasparas Jakucionis will have to show up in a big way. As a freshman, Jakucionis is leading the team in scoring 15 points a night, and he scored 21 points when they faced Maryland in late January.
As the 11th ranked team in the nation, Maryland has their eyes set on a bigger prize, but winning the Big Ten would be a significant confidence boost for the Terrapins. Five different players averaged at least 12 points during the regular season for Maryland, making them a difficult team to gameplan for, and they also have a pair of bigs in Queen and Julian Reese who dominate the glass.

The winner of this game will move on to face either No. 3 Michigan or No. 6 Purdue in the semifinal. Every game matters now, and both teams know that a deep tournament run could make all the difference when Selection Sunday rolls around.
