It’s a Western Conference showdown between two teams with an eye on a deep NHL Playoffs run, as the Los Angeles Kings (40-21-9, 89 points) travel to Ball Arena to take on the Colorado Avalanche (44-25-3, 91 points).
The Avalanche have been as hot as any team in hockey, winning 11 of their last 13 games to vault themselves into the fourth seed in the West. They’re led by the NHL’s leading assist (78) and overall points (107) man, 29-year-old center Nathan MacKinnon. In their last game, Colorado defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-2, behind four unanswered goals spanning three periods. MacKinnon scored his 29th goal to go with an assist in the win.
Los Angeles has been on a fantastic run as well, winning nine of their last ten to make up for a five-game losing streak. Left winger Adrian Kempe leads the team with 58 points (29 G, 29 A), and 37-year-old center Anze Kopitar leads the team with 39 assists. Their last contest resulted in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers. While the Kings have been poor on the power play for most of the season (16.56%), they found the back of the net twice with the man advantage against the Rangers.
This is the second of three meetings in the regular season for the Kings and Avalanche, with the Kings winning 4-2 back in November 2024.
