After stealing Game 1 on the road, the Liberty looked poised to steal the series with a home Game 2. However, as the saying goes, that’s why they play games. The Mercury ran roughshod over the Liberty in Game 2, winning 86-60 in a game that was only competitive for a quarter.
With 3:10 left in the first quarter, the Liberty led 18-12, using their home crowd for energy. That energy was soon depleted, as the Mercury closed the gap with a 13-7 run to end the quarter even at 25-25. New York shot 52.6% from the field in the first quarter, but things fell apart quickly. After making 10 field goals in the first quarter, the Liberty managed just nine the rest of the game, shooting 9-for-44 (20.4%) over the final three quarters.
The Mercury had five players score in double figures, led by Satou Sabally (15), Alyssa Thomas (15), and DeWanna Bonner (14). New York had just one player – Emma Meesseman – reach double digits (11) in the loss.
