Norway finished as the top team in Group A of the tournament, winning all three of its games. The wins were close, though, despite the undefeated record, Norway only had a goal differential of +3, winning each match by exactly one goal. The team had a 2-1 win over Switzerland, a 2-1 win over Finland, and a 4-3 win over Iceland. The first two games both featured an own goal. Without their own goals, Norway would have finished the group stage with five points, setting up a potential three-team tie in the group.
Italy was second in Group B with four points, going 1-1-1. The Italian team opened the round with a 1-0 win over Belgium before drawing 1-1 with Portugal. The team is coming off its only loss of the Euro tournament, a 3-1 defeat against Spain.
In 2022, neither of these teams advanced to the knockout stage of the competition, with Italy finishing fourth in Group D and Norway third in Group A.
