Clemson handled SMU during the regular season, securing a 79-69 win in late February over the Mustangs. Three different players scored at least 16 points for the Tigers, and they shot over 48 percent from the three point line, hitting 14 shots from distance in the win.
SMU spreads the ball around as well as any team in college basketball, with six different players averaging double-digit scoring during the regular season. Boopie Miller leads the Mustangs with 13.3 points and 5.6 assists per game, and he has to get it going on the offensive side of the ball in order to pull off the upset in this one. A win would significantly help SMU’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament, and a loss would in all likelihood put their hopes to rest.
The Tigers are the 10th ranked team in the nation and are led by Chase Hunter, who is averaging 16 points per game. Hunter scored 17 points on 50 percent shooting from the field the last time these two met, and the Mustangs have to figure out a way to make him uncomfortable, or it could be a long night for SMU defensively. Hunter has struggled recently scoring less than ten points in three of his past four outings, making this a get right spot for the senior.
