After a lifeless 5-1 loss in Game 1 in front of their home crowd, the Stars showed they weren’t going to roll over and hand the series to the Avalanche. Game 2 found the Stars trailing 3-2 in the middle of the third period, when Evgenii Dadonov scored his first of the playoffs to tie the score. The game headed to overtime, where Colin Blackwell found the back of the net at 17:46 to secure the victory and even up the series.
The Avalanche did what they needed to do in Dallas, winning a game and flipping home-ice advantage, but missed out on a golden opportunity to take a 2-0 series lead. Nathan MacKinnon scored a power-play goal in the first period (his third of the playoffs) and got support from goals by Jack Drury and Logan O’Connor in the second period, but ultimately it wouldn’t be enough to hold off the Stars.
Of note for the Avalanche, they are potentially getting captain Gabe Landeskog back for Game 3. Landeskog hasn’t played since the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals, due to numerous issues with his knee.
