Texas needed overtime to escape at Kentucky 16-13 last week. Mason Shipley won it with a 45-yard field goal after the Wildcats had tied the game with nine seconds to go in regulation. The Longhorns never trailed but never pulled away from Kentucky, which remained winless in the SEC at 0-4. Texas was outgained 395-179 in the win, with its only touchdown coming on a one-yard run by Quintrevion Wisner in the second quarter. Arch Manning finished just 12-of-27 for 132 yards while the defense came up with five sacks and the game’s only turnover as the Longhorns moved to 2-1 in SEC play.

Mississippi State got inside the Florida 30-yard-line in the late going before an interception ended its comeback hopes in a 23-21 road loss last week. Kamario Taylor’s two-yard run gave the Bulldogs their only lead on the first possession of the game, while Davon Booth had a pair of two-yard scoring runs in the loss. Booth finished with 105 yards on 22 carries, while Blake Shapen was 24-of-36 for 324 yards. Brenen Thompson made seven catches for 155 yards, and Anthony Evans III had 11 grabs for 107 yards.

The Longhorns won at home last year, 35-13, to take a 3-2 lead in the all-time series. It was the teams’ first meeting as conference foes and the first game between the two since 1999.
