After starting the season strong with victories over Miami (OH) and Middle Tennessee State, the Badgers took consecutive losses, first at Alabama (38-14) and then at home to Maryland (27-10). The Badgers couldn’t get things going against the Terrapins on the ground, with quarterback Danny O’Neil rushing 18 times for minus-7 yards. It wasn’t much better in the air, as O’Neil threw for 120 yards on 14 completions before being replaced.
Michigan is coming off a bye week, having last played September 20th at Nebraska, a 30-27 win. That victory came on the strength of controlling the line of scrimmage, as the Wolverines rushed for 286 yards while allowing a paltry 43 to the Cornhuskers. Justice Haynes led the way with 149 rushing yards on 17 attempts and a touchdown, with Bryce Underwood and Jordan Marshall also finding the end zone.
