Hugh Grant Got ‘Absolutely Smashed’ With Travis Kelce at Taylor Swift Show
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Hugh Grant doesn’t usually do concerts — but throw in a Taylor Swift show, some tequila, and an unexpected hangout with the 34-year-old pop sensation’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and even Grant’s in.
During an interview with NME published Tuesday, October 29, the Love Actually actor, 64, recounted his night at Swift’s London show at Wembley Stadium this past June, where he found himself throwing back shots with Kelce, 35, in the VIP area.
“It’s my daughter who’s mad about Taylor Swift,” Grant explained. “I’m an amazing dad. I’m an amazing person. I put out some feelers and to my astonishment they said ‘come along’ and I thoroughly enjoyed it. She went mad, my daughter.”
The rom-com king didn’t specify which daughter joined him, but Grant is a dad to five kids. He shares Tabitha, 13, and John, 12, with his ex-girlfriend, Tinglan Hong. With his current wife, Anna Eberstein, he also is father to son Felix, 11, and two younger children — an 8-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son — whose names he’s kept private.
Grant went on to explain that his daughter brought a friend, and while “they were bopping away,” he hung out with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. “We did tequila shots at the back of this kind of hut in the middle of Wembley — and there were a bunch of, I think they were, rappers,” he explained. “I dunno what they were, anyway we all got absolutely smashed on tequila.”
Following the concert, the Notting Hill icon took to X (formerly Twitter) to give his thanks to Swift and Kelce. He wrote, “Dear @taylorswift13 , You have an incredible show, an amazing and v hospitable team and excellent if gigantic boyfriend (#tequilashots.). Thanks so much from one ageing London boy, wife and thrilled 8 year old #halfgirlhalfbracelet.”
After Grant’s post hit social media, fans were quick to jump into the comments section.
“So glad you had fun! Taylor spreads joy and happiness everywhere she goes (along with her gigantic boyfriend 😂)!” one person said.
“This is the tweet I didn’t know I needed to read today. Love this,” another chimed in.
“So delightfully British to send a thank you note 📝 ☺️,” quipped a third.
“This is so cute 💓😻💓😻 I already thought you were great, and this made me smile so much! Gotta love Taylor and I’m so jealous and happy for everyone who’s been fortunate enough to enjoy the concerts live! Thank you for being a great actor supporting another great performer x,” posted another.
