Hungary’s EU affairs minister holds talks with EU’s rule of law commissioner
János Bóka, EU affairs minister, said he had held talks with Michael McGrath, the European Commissioner for democracy, justice, the rule of law and consumer protection.
In a post on Facebook, Bóka said that in his meeting with McGrath on Monday, he had proposed “to simplify things and to do it in three steps”.
The minister proposed that the European Commission should deal only with matters within its competence, in which all member states should be treated equally. Bóka also asked that the transparent financing of NGOs be fully ensured, adding that “the European Commission should not fill the void left by USAID”.
The minister said that if Hungary and the EC agreed on this and worked together accordingly, “our lives will be much simpler”.
