Husband Away on Deployment Unprepared for What Ring Cam Captures Wife Doing

A woman in Texas found a special way to let her husband, who was deployed, know that she was quite literally counting down the days until his return.

Jimmi from San Angelo used the happy couple’s Ring doorbell camera to surprise her other half with a daily message reminding him of how long he had left before they were reunited.

In footage shared with Newsweek by Ring, she can be seen speaking directly into the camera to inform her husband of the precise number of days until they are together again.

“Every day of my husband’s deployment was a countdown, a reminder that we were one day closer to being together again,” she told Ring.

Research has previously highlighted that the adage about how “absence makes the heart grow fonder” rings truer than most realize. In 2020, a study was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, examining the mammalian instinct to form and maintain enduring bonds.

Researchers studied the brainwaves of prairie voles, chosen because they are one of the few mammals that exhibit monogamy, similar to humans, when interacting with one another. What they found was that when these voles were reunited with a mate after a period of separation, a unique set of cluster cells in the brain lit up.

The findings suggest a unique reaction occurs when loved ones are reunited.

That’s certainly proven to be the case for Jimmi and her husband. While much of the video shared by Ring showcases her daily countdown, it ends with the loved-up couple reunited.

Seeing her husband again after such a long time, and after completing her countdown on the doorbell camera, was a special moment for Jimmi.

“The joy of seeing him return, surrounded by loved ones, felt like a movie especially when I ran into his arms and we embraced for a long time,” she said. “Such a surreal relief knowing he was back and safe and we were finally together.”

This isn’t the first time Ring has played a role in reuniting friends and family separated by the service to one’s country.

In another clip, a pair of young kids found a way to keep their dad involved every day while he was serving overseas, using the doorbell cam outside the family home.

A similarly sweet moment occurred when a veteran who had spent 40 years searching for the friend he had served alongside was reunited, thanks to the wonders of modern technology.
