Hysterics as Man Working at Nursing Home Joins in With Karaoke Session
A tradesman’s decision to join in with a nursing home’s karaoke session and entertain its residents has been praised by viewers on TikTok.
Jason Lowson, a 39-year-old tradesman from England, had been fitting safety flooring into some of the rooms at Saltshouse Haven Care Home in Yorkshire when he noticed that a party was being thrown for its residents. Lowson, who goes by @jayacousticcovers on TikTok, was swiftly approached by a member of staff to help entertain the elderly residents.
As a keen music lover, Lowson decided to sing for the residents using the nursing home’s karaoke kit. His performance, which he shared to TikTok on February 17, has been applauded by viewers on the platform, many of whom celebrated his kindness in taking the time out of his day to put on a show for the delighted residents.
“One of the staff tried to get me to dance, and my reply was I don’t dance, but I would love to sing you a song; as they already had an artist performing for them, she asked the artist if I could sing a song for them,” Lowson told Newsweek.
He decided to sing “My Girl” by The Temptations, and despite being a keen singer at home he battled some nerves to perform. Fortunately, he thoroughly enjoyed his performance, as did the residents and staff who watched him.
“I don’t do gigs or anything. I just go on TikTok to sing as I am self-taught. I just love music,” he said. “I posted the video of the performance that night and received over 700,000 views.
“As I got paid from TikTok for my video the following week, I popped back and bought a load of cakes for the residents and staff to say thank you for giving me a lovely time.”

Viewers online have shared their delight at Lowson’s impromptu nursing home gig in the comments. Several have cheered him on for stepping in to help entertain the residents.
“I used to work in a nursing home,” one viewer said. “Days like this make their week, you can sing, maybe go back once a month and volunteer doing karaoke.”
Another added: “There needs to be more people like you! I work in a care home and they love anyone singing to them.”
“Oh I love this! You probably made their week,” a third viewer posted.
Another comment read: “Top man you made their day.”
