Ice Cream Truck Driver’s Kind Gesture For Blind Boy Captured on Camera

An ice cream truck was filmed going above and beyond for a young blind boy in Florida.

Footage captured on a Ring security camera and subsequently shared with Newsweek shows the moment staff operating the Happy Howies ice cream truck in Deltona did something special for a local boy by the name of Xavier.

Xavier is one of an estimated 1.6 million Americans under the age of 40 living with vision loss or blindness.

While Xavier doesn’t let his visually impaired state hold him back, his mother Cindy recalled a day back in April when his excitement at hearing the cheerful chimes of the Happy Howies ice cream truck got the better of him.

“My blind son, Xavier, eagerly anticipates their visit and he loves the music of the ice cream truck,” she told Ring. “One day, his excitement led him to run into the street when he heard the truck, which understandably worried us.”

A visit to the ice cream truck is a rite of passage for any young kid, but it was important that Xavier experienced this in the safest way possible.

So, unbeknownst to Cindy and her son, the team at Happy Howies hatched a plan to ensure he got to enjoy an ice cream.

“The following week, noticing what had happened, the ice cream truck ladies thoughtfully pulled into our driveway to ensure his safety,” Cindy said.

It was a gesture she said “deeply touched” her and her son. Even better still, it was one captured on her Ring security camera. That gave her the chance to show others how the simplest of gestures can have huge significance to a family like hers.

“I wanted to share the positive experience to give everyone faith in humanity,” she said.

This isn’t the first time a Ring camera has captured footage of a good deed.

Last year, a New York resident shared footage from his doorbell camera showing the moment a complete stranger came by his house to return his lost wallet.

Incredibly the wallet had gone missing with $2,300 inside, all of which was found present and accounted for. The man had come across the wallet while walking his dog and decided to drop it round to the address listed inside, much to the delight of the owner.

Another example of a good deed gone viral came in Chicago, Illinois last June where a group of strangers banded together to help a woman look for her 24kt ring after it was accidentally tossed in the trash of a public bathroom.

Then there was the woman in Dallas who came to the rescue of a dog she found wandering around outside after getting locked out of the house. Once again, CCTV footage captured her kind deed for the pet pooch.
