India Fires New Rounds of Ballistic Missiles, Pakistan Says

Pakistan’s army said India launched ballistic missiles that ultimately landed within Indian territory, as the announcement arrived during a national broadcast at 1:50 a.m. local time Saturday, and no further details were provided.

The Context
Tensions between India and Pakistan reached a boiling point last month after armed gunmen opened fire on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing 26 people. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack. Islamabad has denied responsibility.
India launched retaliatory strikes on nine targets earlier this week, which Pakistan said amounted to an “act of war.”

India launched airstrikes against Pakistan earlier this week in response to the Kashmir attack, targeting nine sites in Pakistan-occupied territory in Jammu and Kashmir and within Pakistani territory.

Walter Ladwig, associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute,told Newsweek: “I think that this brings us back to a type of aerial combat that we haven’t seen in a long time because fighter jets and things like that took a second backseat. Now we’re back to this is two states in a clash with their mainline weapons. It reminds us, you know, this is what state on state war looks like, right?”
“It is a very modern aircraft in the Indian arsenal and one of the top line fighter aircraft in the world. India’s acquisition of it was a key point of the modernization of the Indian Air Force,” Ladwig told Newsweek.
