International arrivals power tourism growth


In November 2025, nearly 1.4 million guests spent 3.0 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments1. Tourist arrivals were up by 7.9% and tourism nights by 5.8% in number compared to a year earlier. In January-November 2025, the number of domestic and international guests arriving to tourist accommodation establishments was 2.8% and 11% higher than in the same period of the previous year.

In November 2025 the number of tourist arrivals increased by 7.9% and that of tourism nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments by 5.8%. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of arrivals expanded by 6.0% and that of tourism nights by 3.7% compared to November 2024. 72% of guests arrived at commercial accommodation establishments, where their number grew by 6.8% from the previous year. Private and other accommodation establishments recorded 11% more tourist arrivals than a year earlier.

The number of domestic tourist arrivals did not change and that of domestic tourism nights was 2.1% lower respectively than in the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic arrivals grew by 2.0% and that of domestic tourism nights fell by 1.3% compared to November 2024. The 611 thousand domestic guests spent nearly 1.3 million tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 475 thousand tourist arrivals and 977 thousand tourism nights. Hotels received 83% of the latter arrivals, where their number grew by 3.0% compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation was 4.7% lower than in November 2024. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic arrivals increased the most in the Győr and Pannonhalma tourism area2 (by 7.9%) and fell the most in the Tokaj and Nyíregyháza tourism area (by 11%). The number of domestic arrivals to tourist accommodation establishments was 5.4% higher in Budapest and 1.4% lower at Lake Balaton.

The number of international tourist arrivals was up by 15% and that of international tourism nights by 12% compared to the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of international arrivals grew by 13% and that of international tourism nights by 9.5% compared to November 2024. The 744 thousand international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent nearly 1.8 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 502 thousand tourist arrivals and 1.2 million tourism nights. Hotels received 88% of the latter arrivals, where their number was 11% higher than a year earlier. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation establishments was 22% higher than in November 2024. Compared to the same month last year, the number of international arrivals increased in all tourism areas, with the largest increase in Greater Budapest and in the Eger region (by 28% and 21% respectively). The number of international arrivals to tourist accommodation was 17% higher in Budapest and 14% higher at Lake Balaton.

A total of 22,142 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 2,247 commercial and 19,895 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.

Of commercial accommodation establishments, 938 hotels and 948 boarding houses were open for part or all of November.

The total gross sales revenue of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 86 billion, 9.3% more at current prices than a year earlier.

Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend HUF 2.4 billion, 2.2% more at current prices compared to the same month of the previous year, at tourist accommodation establishments.

In January-November 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Tourist accommodation establishments recorded a total of 18.1 million tourist arrivals, up 6.9%.

The number of domestic and international tourist arrivals was up by 2.8% and 11% respectively (both reaching nearly 9.1 million) in tourist accommodation establishments.
