Internet Defends Dog After Slow Cooker Meal Disappears: ‘No Evidence’

Internet users were delighted by a video showing a German shepherd who simply couldn’t resist the temptation of the slow cooker, with many people insisting that he was innocent.

The viral TikTok video reveals the moment when Diesel’s owner, Kaitlynn Lovejoy (@lovejoykaitlynn) returned home to find that the slow cooker had been completely wiped clean. There was only one “guilty” party, and Lovejoy didn’t have to look too far to see her pup proudly licking his lips.

Even while his horrified owner looked at the empty slow cooker and asked if he knew what happened, Diesel could hardly contain his pride as he wagged his tail and tried to look away.

While Lovejoy wasn’t pleased about what happened, social media users couldn’t get enough of Diesel’s antics. The video has already been viewed more than 2 million times and garnered over 158,200 likes since it was posted on January 24.

Alongside the hilarious video, Lovejoy wrote in the caption: “Have a German Shepherd they say…it will be fun they say.” Thankfully she was able to laugh it off in the end, and she will love her “sweet Diesel” no matter what he gets up to.

Many pet owners will recognize their cat or dog’s behavior when they have been caught, whether it’s refusing to make eye contact or pretending to sleep so they avoid confrontation. Researchers have conducted numerous studies to analyze whether or not dogs can feel guilt, but they still can’t be sure.

VCA Animal Hospitals experts say that when dogs are retreating and keeping their heads down, they are not indicating signs of remorse, but they are responding to their owner’s body language. As they can sense that their owner isn’t happy, they may revert to a posture that indicates submission or appeasement, which we, in turn, read as guilt.

After leaving the slow cooker on throughout the day, Lovejoy would have been hoping to return home and find that her dinner was perfectly cooked and ready to eat. However, Diesel had other plans as he simply couldn’t resist the temptation.

Since the slow cooker was “licked clean” by the cheeky German shepherd, his family opted to make hibachi that night instead. Diesel probably would have been happy to help them with that meal, too.

The viral video has amused many, and with over 3,200 comments on TikTok, thousands of people are showing their support for the guilty pup. One comment reads: “Where is the proof there was food in the crock pot? He is being framed.”

Another TikTok user responded: “as his lawyer – He is pleading the fifth and we want to address there is no evidence.”

While another person joked: “At least he left no mess.”
