Is Drake Dissing Lakers’ LeBron James in New Song?

The NBA and the hip-hop genre are tied together like no other. Many NBA stars want to be like rappers, and many rappers want to be like NBA players.

They envy each other, and because of their influences on each other, it’s hard to distinguish the two. This tie between them goes back two decades, and to this day, they are not just tied to each other, but they’re joined by the hips.

That’s the nature of pop culture, specifically when it comes to the NBA and the rap/hip-hop genre. The two have appeared to be colliding once again, this time involving the rapper Drake and arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, LeBron James.

Seemingly, the whole world appeared to have turned on Drake in 2024 after the beef between himself and Kendrick Lamar took over the music world.

Many seemed to turn on Drake and formed an ally with Kendrick Lamar, including James. James has have been caught on camera multiple times in support of Kendrick’s hit song “Not Like Us,” which is aimed at Drake.

Because of that, it appears that Drake decided to take out his anger and frustration on the basketball player. A new freestyle called” Fighting Irish,” produced by Conductor Williams’, contains bars that seem to be addressed toward James.

“The world fell in love with the gimmicks/ Even my brothers got tickets/ Seemed like they loved every minute,” Drake raps on the song. “Just know the shit is personal to us and wasn’t just business/ Analyzing behavioral patterns is somewhat suspicious.” Later, he raps about gifting each other watches, which some internet sleuths have determined is a reference to LeBron. He then threatens to reveal secrets about the NBA megastar: “And n****s cried the blues for you, sayin’ it wasn’t malicious/ Talkin’ ’bout we family, well, I’m not the cousin to visit/ God forbid we ever got to tarnish your public image.”

There are rumors that this song is aimed toward James, but it is not confirmed. Still, the lyrics and even the title of the song suggest otherwise. James attended St. Vincent St. Mary High School, and their mascot was the Fighting Irish.

Another one of the lyrics that suggests Drake takes aim at James is this lyric, “Remember we traded watches I gave you the Arabic dial and you gave me the numbered edition.”

James was seen wearing the Arabic dial on the bench while wearing street clothes.

We may never know if it is indeed toward James, but the clues seem to be there.
