Despite the New York Giants’ 2-11 record, there’s optimism for the team’s future because of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The 2025 first-round pick took over as New York’s starting QB just four weeks into the season, and he’s been quite impressive when he’s played.
The 22-year-old signal-caller has thrown for 1,556 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions with a 94.1 passer rating, and he’s rushed for 337 yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground.
Some of Dart’s immediate success can be attributed to his time under former head coach Lane Kiffin in Oxford. Dart spent three seasons playing for Kiffin at Ole Miss, where he was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2024 and led the NCAA in passer rating.

As Dart is winding down his first season as a pro, he’s also not oblivious to the turmoil his alma mater just went through with Kiffin’s departure for LSU and the subsequent promotion of defensive coordinator Pete Golding to permanent head coach.
Dart was asked by reporters on Wednesday how he feels about Kiffin’s controversial decision, to which he gave a pretty candid and understanding reply.
“He kind of does some things that are unexpected,” Dart told reporters. “I’m looking forward to his next opportunity. Me and him just have such a great relationship, so I know for him, he’s going to put his best foot down and do some really great things for that program. I’m definitely excited for him.
“I’m definitely happy for Ole Miss keeping coach (Pete) Golding at the helm there. I was also happy to keep their offensive staff, being able to come back and coach for the rest of the playoff. I felt like that would be kind of, like a disrespect a little bit, to not let those guys finish it out. Really excited to see their run to a national championship this year.”

From 2022 to 2024, Dart threw for 10,617 yards, 72 touchdowns and 22 interceptions while completing 65.7% of his passes. He broke Eli Manning’s school record for the most passing yards of all time.
He was 29-10 as the Rebels starter, leading the team to three bowl appearances and two bowl wins (Peach Bowl, 2023, and Gator Bowl, 2024).
