Jerry Jones Teases Cowboys Big Trade Plans
The Dallas Cowboys are currently in a rough spot as a franchise. They finished last year 7-10, earning them the 12th pick in the draft, and have a lot of holes to fill.
It is becoming difficult to fill those holes given the top players they have to pay, including quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and pass rusher Micah Parsons.

Parsons is the only one of those three who hasn’t been paid yet, and reports suggest the two sides aren’t all that close to a deal as of now.
With the Cowboys in need of changes or some sort of move to change their fortunes, general manager and owner Jerry Jones mentioned to the media that the team is working on two ‘substantive’ trades.
Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones indicating that Dallas isn’t done in the trade market and outside deals are in the works:
“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft. Two pretty substantive trades. Been working on today.”

“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft. Two pretty substantive trades. Been working on today,” Jones said.
That headline alone is an interesting one, but it is even more interesting to speculate what those trades could be. One such trade could involve Parsons being traded away for a huge return. While Parsons is a huge part of the defense, trading him would be a great way to recoup some assets and retool the roster.
The trades could also just as likely involve the Cowboys acquiring players. One player recently linked to the team is Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

Those rumors were swiftly shot down, but there could be substance in a trade between the Broncos and the Cowboys. Other reports have suggested the Broncos are looking to trade up from the 20th pick. The Cowboys have the 12th pick and would likely be happy to trade down.
They could use a running back or a wide receiver, so if they can’t acquire Sutton, trading down and selecting the best receiver or running back available would make a lot of sense.
Another possibility is a huge trade up. It is no secret that the team could use a running back, so maybe trading up to snag Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty somewhere in the top five could make a lot of sense.
Given the decent drop-off in prospects after Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, and Abdul Carter, teams like the Patriots or Jaguars may be willing to trade down.
That would allow the Cowboys to jump the Las Vegas Raiders, the team that seemingly everyone mocks him to go to.

While the week leading up to the draft usually produces lots of fluff in the rumor mill, it will be interesting nonetheless to see what Jerry Jones has in store, and he constitutes as ‘substantive.’
