Jets Make Decision on QB Justin Fields Before Dolphins Matchup
In his first game with the New York Jets, quarterback Justin Fields played much better than anticipated despite a nail-biting loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In that game, Fields completed 16 of 22 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown. He also added 48 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
But in Week 2, that success didn’t carry over against the Buffalo Bills as Fields went completed just 3 of his 11 passes for 27 yards in the Jets’ blowout loss. To make matters worse, he went down with an injury in the fourth quarter that put him into concussion protocol.
Fields missed the following game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3, in which the Jets suffered another close loss, falling to 0-3 with a big Week 4 matchup against the division rival Miami Dolphins next on the schedule.
Jets Provide Significant Update on Fields’ Game Status vs. Miami
Ahead of the Jets’ divisional matchup on Sunday, head coach Aaron Glenn said that Fields would make his return to the lineup, sending backup QB Tyrod Taylor back to the bench.
Fields’ return is great news for New York as it will be looking for its first win of the season against a struggling division foe.
Miami will also be entering the game 0-3 and coming off a loss to the Bills on “Thursday Night Football.” Despite the defeat, the Dolphins arguably looked the best they have all season in that game, which could give them some encouragement heading into Week 4.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa showed signs of improvement against the Bills, but he ultimately threw the game away with a bad interception late in the fourth quarter that has some fans calling for him to be benched. A poor performance against the Jets might help facilitate that decision.
If New York can take advantage of Miami’s struggling offense, and Fields plays like he did in Week 1, the Jets could add one to the win column.
