John Cena WWE Farewell Tour Blasted by Former Champion
The John Cena WWE farewell tour is now in its final months, with the legendary professional wrestler having faced former foes such as CM Punk, Randy Orton, and Brock Lesnar. He’s also been involved in a back-and-forth swap of the Undisputed WWE Championship with Cody Rhodes, which saw Cena go from face to heel for multiple months.
He’s since returned to his popular face role, and he’s now preparing for a clash with another familiar foe. Cena and AJ Styles will battle it out at WWE Crown Jewel this month, as they add another match to their rivalry, based on many fans’ demands online.
With that in mind, Cena will have only a small number of matches left after Crown Jewel. His final appearance was recently confirmed for Saturday, Dec. 13, in Washington, D.C., for “Saturday Night’s Main Event.”

An opponent has yet to be named for that match. However, some fans and former wrestlers believe it should be someone newer that Cena could help elevate before he leaves WWE. Others might think it should be him getting a rematch against Brock Lesnar to prove he can defeat him.
A former wrestling champion recently shared his thoughts about the John Cena retirement tour. While he gave WWE the “benefit of the doubt,” he also used the word “atrocious” when talking about the booking of Cena and his matches.
“It almost sickens me that they have absolutely no plan for Cena’s farewell, where they’re pulling this [AJ Styles] match out from their backside because the IWC wants a great wrestling match,” former WCW Champion and WWE writer Vince Russo said on SportsKeeda WrestleBinge.
He said he would give WWE the “benefit of the doubt” due to something happening with The Rock, because it appeared he was WWE’s “Plan A” for a big John Cena match. The Rock was previously involved in this year’s Cody Rhodes and John Cena feud, which saw Cena turn heel and attack Rhodes.
“You can’t plan on something going south. If something goes south, it’s gonna go south..But that’s when you go to plan B,” Russo said, adding, they’d need to “put a little extra thought into plan B.”
He called it “atrocious” that, with so few appearance dates left on Cena’s farewell tour, WWE is letting fans book what matches they want to see Cena have.
“That is absolutely atrocious. This is John Cena we’re talking about,” Russo said, adding, “You couldn’t have a solid plan for this guy for three months?”
He and Sportskeeda WrestleBinge’s Dr. Chris both criticized how WWE went from Cena facing Brock and losing to him facing AJ Styles next. However, Russo said he could see WWE possibly having in mind for Cena to face Brock for his final match at “Saturday Night’s Main Event.”
While Russo called for that, other individuals have suggested Cena battle someone like Gunther, Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, or Dom Mysterio to help elevate their careers.
