Juan Soto Predicted to Re-Sign With Yankees on Record-Breaking 14-Year Deal
As MLB’s Winter Meetings get underway, the Juan Soto free agency sweepstakes will surely remain a focal point until he makes a decision. Can the New York Yankees find a way to retain their superstar for the next decade-plus?
A report surfaced Saturday saying the New York Mets have offered Soto more than $730 million to ditch his pinstripes and land in Queens. Jon Heyman of the New York Post also reported the Mets and Yankees have submitted bids of at least $710 million.
Will Soto sign with the team that offers the most money, or do the Yankees have an advantage since the outfielder spent 2024 in the Bronx? Former MLB slugger Todd Frazier shared his prediction on a recent edition of the Foul Territory show.
“I think he is going to be a Yankee, I do,” Frazier said. “I think it is going to be around 14 years, $700 million, in my opinion. You have to get a big price and he’s 26. He probably wants to play until he’s 40 years old, I think that is where it is, I think that is where the offer should be. As crazy as it sounds. I see the Yankees getting him at $700 million, 14 years, $50 million a year.”
That $50 million annual average salary would be a new record depending on how much deferred money is included. Shohei Ohtani’s 10-year, $700 million deal comes with a record $46 million annual average salary since $680 million is being deferred.
While the Yankees might not be the highest bidder, Heyman said the Bombers have an “edge” for two reasons. Soto loves hitting in front of Aaron Judge and is also fond of the two-time American League MVP’s presence in the clubhouse.
