Kardashian Family Evacuates Hidden Hills Homes Amid Wildfires
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Several members of the Kardashian family had to evacuate from their homes, most of which are located in the Hidden Hills neighborhood outside Los Angeles on Thursday, January 9 due to the Kenneth Fire.
Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kris and Rob Kardashian, as well as Kylie and Kendall Jenner, were subject to a mandatory evacuation order as the fire spread across 1,000 acres, TMZ reports. The evacuation orders had been lifted and the fire, which began in West Hills, was 35 percent contained as of Friday afternoon.
This dramatic evacuation came not long after Kim, 42, faced backlash for posting about her shapewear brand, SKIMS, as Los Angeles was burning. On Wednesday, January 8, the mogul promoted the company’s “Winter Sale” on Instagram. “THE WINTER SALE STARTS TOMORROW. Set your alarm to shop the first major event of the year with up to 50% off your favorite SKIMS collections,” read her Instagram post, which many followers categorized as “tone deaf,” given the severity of the fires. Kim ultimately took the post down.
Despite the backlash toward Kim’s post, the well-known Los Angeles family has reportedly been making significant donations to the fire relief effort. In addition to monetary donations to a variety of relief organizations, they apparently funded meals from Hollywood restaurant Carousel to be delivered to firefighters. Khloé, 40, has been praised for sharing resources on her Instagram story.
It does not appear as if the Kardashians’ homes were damaged, but many celebrities living in the area surrounding the Pacific Palisades have lost their houses. Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, Jamie Lee Curtis, and more have reported that their homes have been burned in the fire. In the meantime, Curtis and other celebs like Halle Berry and Sharon Stone have made donations to help the victims. Angelina Jolie is reportedly hosting displaced loved ones in her home and purchasing emergency supplies.
