Kyle Schwarber Will Get Paid By Phillies, Or Someone Else

The biggest question facing the Philadelphia Phillies right now is the future of Kyle Schwarber.

That has been obvious over the last few months. Schwarber enjoyed a magical season in which he led the National League both in home runs (56) and RBIs (132) while leading the club to the No. 2 seed in the National League playoffs. Obviously, the Phillies didn’t advance as far in the playoffs as they hoped. But Schwarber played like a Most Valuable Player and was integral to the team’s success.

Schwarber bet on himself in a contract year, and has positioned himself nicely to top the four-year, $79 million deal he initially signed with the Phillies. His future is up in the air, but one thing that should give Phillies fans at least some hope is the fact that NBC Sports Philadelphia digital Phillies reporter Cole Weintraub predicted that Schwarber will end up returning on a four-year, $120 million deal.

“A right-handed power hitter in conjunction with (Josh Naylor) could help offset the loss of Schwarber’s run creation,” Weintraub wrote Monday. “But, a reunion still makes too much sense. Schwarber has become one of the faces of the franchise. ‘We’d love to bring Kyle Schwarber back,’ President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski said. ‘It’s a priority for us. He knows it. But he’s a free agent, and you never know what happens.’

“Prediction: The Phillies bring Schwarber back on a four-year, $120 million deal. He’s become the heart of this team, and both sides know it.”

This prediction comes in higher than Spotrac’s projected market value for Schwarber. It’s projecting Schwarber’s market value to be just under $100 million across four seasons. Regardless of the exact number, the perception around Schwarber is that he’s about to get paid handsomely, and it’s well deserved.

The Phillies won 96 games in 2025. It’s not like this team is aggressively far from their ultimate goal of a World Series. Keeping the majority of the core together, including Schwarber would help with this. This is one person’s prediction and not a guarantee of a deal coming. But it’s coming from a person with a clear connection covering the Phillies closely. There’s no reason for the Phillies to let Schwarber walk after the season he just had.

If the Phillies do decide to let him go, there are plenty of teams out there that make sense for him. The Boston Red Sox have been a popular team linked to Schwarber, most recently by FanSided’s Robert Murray. They’re another team with a lot of money at their disposal, especially after trading Rafael Devers away. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman also mentioned the Chicago Cubs while hosting a livestream for Bleacher Report.

There’s no guarantee that Schwarber will return, but it’s a very safe bet that this guy is going to land a big deal this winter.
