Lane Kiffin Takes Subtle Shot at Pete Golding Ahead of Ole Miss-Miami CFP
It’s impossible for Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers to stay out of the news cycle, and that’s even more impossible hours before his former side, the Ole Miss Rebels, play their biggest game in over 50 years in the Fiesta Bowl.
Pete Golding’s side, led by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, blew out the Tulane Green Wave before downing SEC rival Georgia in the Super Bowl, and now they’re one game away from the College Football Playoff national championship.
Ole Miss superfan and hardworking Barstool Sports personality Ben Mintz called Kiffin en route to the Fiesta Bowl alongside fellow Barstool colleague Tate “Ohio’s Tate” Moore and famous former NHL player-turned-broadcaster/podcaster Paul Bissonnette.
After picking up the call, Bissonnette wished Kiffin luck in today’s game, citing his importance to how far the Rebels have come this postseason.
Kiffin answered, taking a jab at the man who is getting praised for leading Ole Miss to their best position in nearly a century.

“Thank you, thank you,” he said over FaceTime to Bissonnette. “Then, you know, the step-parent comes in after you did all the work. And then the step-parent—everyone’s like, ‘Screw the parent!’ … The kid does great, and then the [step] husband goes, ‘Oh, that was me!’”
Kiffin would go on to say that he was looking forward to the game and that he felt “good” about Ole Miss’s chances against a tough Miami squad that knocked out the defending champions, Ohio State.
He also let slip that he was courting numerous players on campus in Baton Rouge, including an unnamed quarterback.
Kiffin has been all over the transfer portal since it officially opened on Friday, searching for a starting signal caller for 2026 following Michael Van Buren’s departure.
The Tigers hosted top-rated QB Sam Leavitt recently, but the former Sun Devil is now on a multi-day tour on the Tennessee Volunteers campus.
The transfer portal officially closes on Jan. 16, 2026.
