Liv Morgan’s WWE Absence Will Be Shorter Than Expected: Report
WWE Superstar Liv Morgan is temporarily stepping away from the ring to take a significant opportunity in Hollywood. On the April 28, 2025, edition of Raw, the current Women’s Tag Team Champion announced she needed time off to film a “big Hollywood movie.”
Further details have since emerged about this project. Deadline had reported that Morgan has been cast in “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo,” directed by the acclaimed Takashi Miike and co-starring Shun Oguri and Lily James.
In the film, Morgan will portray the daughter of a politician who goes missing in Tokyo. The plot involves an FBI agent, played by Lily James, heading the investigation into her disappearance in Japan.
Despite this acting commitment, Morgan’s break from WWE is not expected to be lengthy. A report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider indicated there are currently “no plans” for Morgan and her tag team partner, Raquel Rodriguez, to vacate the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, suggesting her return is imminent.
Providing more specific timing, Fightful Select recently issued an update on when fans might see Morgan back on WWE television. Their report notes that Morgan is scheduled to finish filming her role around May 16 and is expected back in the United States by May 17.

While an exact on-screen return date remains unconfirmed, this schedule places her back stateside just before the May 19 episode of Raw in Greenville, South Carolina. This opens the door for a potential appearance very soon.
Morgan heads into this hiatus holding tag team gold, a title she and Rodriguez recently reclaimed. At WrestleMania 41 in April, they initially lost the championships to the returning Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria on Night 2.
However, Morgan and Rodriguez quickly won them back. On the Raw immediately following WrestleMania 41, they won back the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, with Morgan pinning Valkyria.

This championship success follows a turbulent but defining period for Morgan over the past year. Her rivalry with Rhea Ripley dominated much of 2024. Morgan eventually dethroned Becky Lynch to capture the Women’s World Championship. Her feud with Ripley led to a match at SummerSlam, where Morgan defeated Ripley, aided by a shocking betrayal from Dominik Mysterio.
Mysterio turned on Ripley, aligning himself with Morgan and cementing her turn into a villainous character. Ripley won it back earlier this year.
