Map Shows LeBron James’ Home Surrounded by Los Angeles Fires
A property owned by NBA star LeBron James is located very close to one of the ongoing wildfires that have leveled neighborhoods across Los Angeles.
Fueled by dry conditions and strong Santa Ana winds, the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, Lidia and Kenneth fires have caused unprecedented devastation across Los Angeles County over the past several days, with damages estimated at up to $150 billion.
The wildfires, which started on January 7, have killed at least 24 people, with an additional 16 reported missing. Around 150,000 people are under evacuation orders. More than 12,300 structures have been destroyed, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire).
Calmer winds in recent days have helped firefighters get some of the multiple blazes under control after several days of battling the flames. Thousands of residents were forced to evacuate, and ongoing high winds could prolong their time away from home if fires continue to burn.
However, with more high winds forecast for this week, residents are remaining on high alert as evacuation orders continue to be in place for several areas.
Los Angeles Lakers player James counts himself among those whose property sits close to the perimeter of the ongoing Palisades Fire, which has spread over more than 23,700 acres, and is 17 percent contained, per CAL Fire.
Newsweek has contacted a representative of James via email for comment.
James’ home, which is set up from the street in the tiny enclave of Brentwood, was purchased in 2017 for $23 million. At the time, the property had eight bedrooms. Additional features included a home theater, wine cellar, cigar room, onyx-lined wet bar, and spa with steam room, sauna and massage room.
According to Zillow, the property is now worth more than $27 million. Also included in James’ Southern California property portfolio is a home in Beverly Hills.
On Friday, as the fires ravaged sizable sections of Los Angeles, James wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “I pray this nightmare ends soon! […] So many prayers.”
A plethora of celebrities have lost their homes since the fires broke out last week. Among them are actors Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Adam Brody and Leighton Meester.
Socialite, media personality and DJ Paris Hilton shared that she was “heartbroken beyond words” to learn her home had been destroyed in the fire.
“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” Hilton said.
Schitt’s Creek star Eugene Levy told the Los Angeles Times that he had been evacuated on January 7. The honorary mayor of Pacific Palisades eventually lost his property. His son and Schitt’s Creek co-star, Dan Levy, wrote on social media: “Heartbroken for my family, my friends, and the people of LA affected by the catastrophic fires.”
The Hills stars Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag also lost their home in the fires last week. On January 8, Pratt said that his son’s bed burned in the shape of a heart as his house “burned to the ground.”
“A sign of how much love was in this house so thankful for all the years and memories there with our family,” Pratt wrote on Instagram.
