Marjorie Taylor Greene Wants Lawmakers To Get Physical Exams Like Trump

Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia suggested that Congress and Senate lawmakers should get annual physicals like the president so voters can be made aware of their medications and alcohol use.

Newsweek reached out to Greene’s office via email and phone on Friday for comment.

Why It Matters

The president typically gets a physical every year at Walter Reed Medical Center and the results are usually made public.

Trump’s last annual physical while in office indicated that the president was 6-foot-3, 244 pounds and had a blood pressure reading of 121/79. He is scheduled to have his yearly exam on Friday.

His state of health has been somewhat of a mystery the last five years as his exams have not been made public. Trump often touts his health, even previously challenging former President Joe Biden to a mental acuity test.

What To Know

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Greene floated her idea, saying, “President Trump is reporting to Walter Reed for his annual physical. I am sure he will have a great report because I know he is in fantastic shape and is sharp as a tack! However, House Representatives and Senators should have to have physicals as well and the results should be public.

“Drug test, alcohol consumption, and specific prescription medication usage should be known to the public. We have many serving that are not mentally or physically functioning well enough to serve. Even some who are barely functioning and whose staff fully control their voting cards! When your Rep or Senator is constantly using their staff like nursing home care workers, it’s time for them to RETIRE and it’s time for them to be replaced!”

The Georgia lawmaker urged that she wants this for Democrats and Republicans.

Calls for lawmakers on both sides of the isle to retire because of health concerns have echoed recently. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell has faced multiple calls to step down amid abrupt health issues.

Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi has also faced calls to resign on social media after breaking her hip at the end of last year while on a trip overseas.

What People Are Saying

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, during a Friday briefing: “As I have said, the president is undergoing his long-scheduled physical, I’d say yearly physical, that every president receives. And we will provide an update on that…by the president’s physician as soon as we possibly can.”

President Donald Trump, on Truth Social on Monday: “I am pleased to report that my long scheduled Annual Physical Examination will be done at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Friday of this week. I have never felt better, but nevertheless, these things must be done!”

What Happens Next

Once the results are in, the White House says Trump’s physician will release the update to the public.
