Melania Trump Announces Response from Vladimir Putin Over Missing Ukrainian Children

First lady Melania Trump said Friday that eight Ukrainian children have been reunited with their families following ongoing talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump wrote a letter to Putin in August, which her husband, President Donald Trump, hand-delivered during his meeting with the Russian leader in Alaska.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has led to the removal of Ukrainian children from their country to be raised in Russia.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Melania Trump said Putin responded to her letter and that they established an “open channel of communication” regarding the children’s welfare.

“We have agreed to cooperate with each other for the benefit of all people involved in this war,” she said.

The Associated Press documented Russia’s taking of Ukrainian children in 2022. The International Criminal Court later issued an arrest warrant for Putin on war crimes charges, accusing him of personal responsibility for the abductions.
