Mercedes-Benz USA Gets New CEO

Mercedes-Benz has announced a leadership transition in its North American division, naming industry veteran Adam Chamberlain as the next CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA), effective July 1.

Chamberlain will also assume the role of head of marketing and sales for Mercedes-Benz Cars North America, succeeding Dimitris Psillakis.

“We’re excited to welcome Adam back to Mercedes-Benz. Adam is a proven executive with over 30 years of global automotive experience including the past nine years in the U.S,” Mathias Geisen, member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Marketing & Sales, told Newsweek.

“He brings an exceptional blend of strategic and operational excellence in both the manufacturer and retail businesses as well as a strong connection to our team, dealers and customers.”

Adam Chamberlain will return to Mercedes-Benz USA, where he previously served as Vice President of Sales from 2016 to 2021.

The leadership change comes at a critical time for the company, as it continues to navigate rapid shifts in the automotive landscape, including electrification, supply chain challenges and digitalization. Geisen added that Chamberlain, together with newly appointed CEO of Mercedes-Benz North America Jason Hoff, will play a key role in “navigating transformation and laying the groundwork for long-term success.”

His return is being welcomed warmly by the company’s dealer network. “I want to personally thank Dimitris for his leadership through an intense period of change and disruption. Transformation is never easy—it brought real challenges and, at times, strained relationships. But what stands out is the effort he made to rebuild trust and connection over time,” said J. Agresta, chair of the Mercedes-Benz Dealer Board and owner of Mercedes-Benz Englewood (Benzel-Busch Motor Car).

Chamberlain will replace Psillakis, who has led Mercedes-Benz USA since late 2020 and who will transition to a new role as senior strategic adviser for Mercedes-Benz through the end of 2025.

“Dimitris has positioned the brand and the dealers well for success. I truly respect his commitment and wish him all the best in what’s to come. At the same time, and on behalf of all the dealers, I am excited to welcome Adam back to MBUSA,” Agresta added.

In addition to his previous tenure at MBUSA, Chamberlain most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Lithia & Driveway, overseeing operations for more than 300 dealerships. His earlier roles include president of Aston Martin Americas and senior leadership positions in the U.K. and Ireland with Mercedes-Benz and other automakers.

He will now oversee more than 1,600 employees and over 380 dealer partners across the U.S., along with 200 employees and 59 dealers in Canada—together supporting a brand that delivered 324,500 car and van sales in the region in 2024.
