Mets Complete Trade To Acquire Gregory Soto From Orioles

The New York Mets are in agreement on a trade with the Baltimore Orioles to acquire left-handed reliever Gregory Soto, according to SNY’s Andy Martino. The report has been confirmed by multiple other outlets, including Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The deal is set to send pitching prospects Wellington Arecena and Cameron Foster to Baltimore, per Martino.

Soto, 30, holds a 3.96 ERA in 36 1/3 innings this year. The flame-throwing lefty hasn’t been an incredible arm, but he’s certainly a noticeable upgrade to New York’s bullpen.

Arecena, 20, has multiple plus pitches and has been incredible in 64 1/3 innings at Low-A this year. He projects as a starter down the line with an above-average fastball and cutter, among other pitches.

Foster, 26, is a bit on the older side, but he still packs a lot of talent. He held a 1.01 ERA across over 20 innings in Double-A before being elevated to Triple-A. Since being elevated, he’s been roughed up a bit.

The Orioles likely aren’t done selling at this point. There are a few talented players like Ryan O’Hearn and Charlie Morton on the roster who could net some prospects in return on the trade block.

The Mets almost certainly aren’t done. They could look to add another starting pitcher, an additional arm to the bullpen, and an outfielder. Expect New York to stay aggressive following this move.
