Mets Reportedly Interview Son of Braves Legend for Open Coaching Position

The New York Mets made major changes to the coaching staff after the season ended. While Carlos Mendoza will return, there are multiple vacancies on his coaching staff.

The Mets have already started their search for new coaches. The team interviewed former Houston Astros hitting coach, and son of former Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker, Troy Snitker, for an open hitting coach position, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

The Braves recently moved on from Snitker as the team’s manager. The team announced that he will move into an advisory role after spending 49 years in the organization. His son had served as the hitting coach for the Astros since 2019 before being fired this year.

Snitker was part of the coaching staff in 2021 when his father’s Braves beat the Astros in the World Series. He was also on the staff when the Astros won the World Series in 2022 against the Philadelphia Phillies. His joining the Mets staff after his father was announced to be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame would add another wrinkle to the Braves-Mets rivalry.

The Mets felt the need to make coaching changes after missing the postseason, despite high expectations. The team went to the National League Championship Series last year and signed Juan Soto before the start of the season. Missing the postseason entirely was a true shock for Mets fans.

Now, the Mets are trying to reload their coaching staff. Snitker is a World Series champion as a hitting coach and has spent seven seasons in an organization that has consistently been a contender in recent years. He could be a great addition to the Mets staff if the team hires him.
