Mom Asked Why Twins Have Different Birthdays—No One Prepared for Her Answer
A mom has left internet users stunned for the reason why her twins have two different birthdays.
Rather than the usual scenario where one baby being born right before midnight and the other just after, Stephanie Simpson, with husband Bo, has a different story.
In a post on TikTok, Simpson (@stephsimpson3) shared that her first daughter, Madilyn Brook was born on January 15, 2008, at 11:50 p.m., while her twin sister, Haven JoLee, was born more than four and a half hours after on January 16, 2008, at 4:24 a.m.
Simpson explained that her daughters are di/di twins, meaning they each had their own gestational sac and placenta. “In reality, Baby B could’ve stayed in utero [in the womb] for days,” she said.
Simpson’s induction began at 6 a.m. on January 15. It wasn’t until nearly midnight that Baby A, Madilyn, arrived.
“I tried so hard to push baby B out but she wouldn’t come,” she said. “My OB [obstetrician-gynecologist] did not want me to have a vaginal delivery and a c-section, so we decided to wait her out. [At] 4:24am on January 16, she finally came.”
At just 21, Simpson said she hadn’t anticipated such an ordeal. “I literally thought I would be there a couple hours,” she said. “The hospital staff were wonderful,” she added, noting that she never felt pressured to rush through the difficult delivery.
Her post has received 6.5 million views on TikTok, as well as thousands of comments from users trying to guess the reason for the twins’ separate birthday.
“With them being born in Jan it could’ve been different years,” one said.
“So close!” Simpson wrote in response.
“My twin sister and I are three months apart! My fav [sic] fun fact,” said another.
“Mine were two minutes before midnight and three minutes after. They’ve always loved having their own birthday. And they celebrated separately as well,” another wrote.
A third commented, “Imagine if you didn’t know you were having twins that day. The second one would have been a crazy surprise.”
“So cool mama,” another added.
Simpson, who is also mom to her son, Kayson, said most people are fascinated when they learn her daughters don’t share the same birthday.
“People think it’s so cool that they have different birthdays,” she said. “Our local newspaper did an article in the paper. Twins have to share a lot of things but my daughter don’t share their birthdays.”
