NBC Sparks Outrage With USA, Canada Coverage Before Olympic Gold Medal Game
For the second times this week, the United States and Canada will take the ice for a gold medal. Just a few days ago, the United States women’s hockey team pulled off an epic comeback against Canada, adding a game-tying goal after pulling their goalie with just over two minutes left in regulation before a game-winning goal in overtime.
Now the Canadian men’s team has a change to exact some revenge. Canada enters the gold medal game as the clear favorite, though the American side has been nearly as dominant through group stage, quarterfinals and semifinals while outscoring opponents 24-8.
While Canada and the United States waited to take the ice, Finland and Slovakia met in the bronze medal game on Saturday afternoon. NBC’s broadcast of the game sparked outrage as one NHL reporter suggested it spent too much time focusing on the gold medal game instead of the game at hand.

“The NBC/Peacock broadcast of the men’s bronze medal game has genuinely spent more time talking about the USA-Canada game tomorrow than the game they are actually supposed to be calling right now,” NHL reporter Emma Lingen called out.
Her followers agreed.
“They have absolutely zero interest in this Bronze medal game. Just a disservice to the two teams playing,” one fan said before another added, “Truly awful professionalism. Worst broadcast possible.”
“A shame too because there’s plenty to highlight with the Finns after they dropped the first one to the Slovaks. Really picked up steam after that and almost toppled Canada. It’s a really good team…” offered another.
Canada and the United States are set for an 8:10 a.m. ET faceoff.
