Netanyahu Corrects Donald Trump in Front of TV Cameras
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to correct Donald Trump’s pronunciation of “Abraham” after U.S. President opted for a blended pronunciation of the religious name on Monday when announcing a new peace proposal for Gaza.
Trump told the media on Monday he preferred to pronounce the Abraham Accords — a set of agreements to normalize relations between Israel and Arab states, brokered by Trump during his first term — as the “Abrahaam Accords.”
“I like to say it that way because the real people, that’s what they call it,” Trump said during a press conference on Monday. “It’s so much nicer when you say Abrahaam, so much more elegant.” Trump’s pronunciation appeared to be a mixture of the Hebrew pronunciation with the English-language spelling, The Atlantic reporter Yair Rosenberg noted on X.
“I’ve got to contribute my own—we can energize the Avraham Accords,” Netanyahu later said in front of the world’s media. “That’s what it’s called in the original Hebrew: Avraham. Abraham is fine, Abrahaam—however you want to call it.”
This is a breaking story and will be updated shortly.
