New Developments Echo Unlikeliness Of Terry McLaurin Trade

This summer, the Washington Commanders have been part of one of the main ongoing storylines in the NFL. As the two sides continue to try and work out an agreement, one insider dove into the latest speculation regarding a trade.

Things started out small between McLaurin and the Commanders with the veteran wideout opting not to partake in minicamp. His holdout eventually carried over into training camp but ended after four days of hefty fines.

Upon rejoining the Commanders, McLaurin was placed on the PUP list due to an ankle injury. Still without a new contract extension, reports emerged last week that he approached Washington about a trade.

Insider provides new update on Commanders WR Terry McLaurin

On Monday morning, NFL insider Dan Graziano broke down the latest intel from training camps across the league. When discussing the Commanders, he dove into McLaurin’s recent trade request. The organization remains focused on signing him to an extension and isn’t entertaining the idea of a trade.

“The Terry McLaurin contract dispute is hanging over an otherwise very positive Commanders camp,” Graziano wrote. “Washington’s No. 1 wide receiver is seeking a contract extension and has informed the team he would like to be traded to a team more willing to give him what he wants. The Commanders do not intend to trade him, according to the people I’ve spoken to there, and they say they continue to work toward a contract extension.”

The latest reporting echoes a similar message that has come out since this ordeal began. Although a deal hasn’t surfaced yet, the Commanders still value McLaurin and don’t want him playing anywhere other than Washington.

As one of the more consistent receivers in the NFL, a decent market would surely form for McLaurin. However, it remains clear that the Commanders are entertaining the idea of a trade.

Fresh off nearly reaching the Super Bowl, the Commanders are right to maintain their stance regarding McLaurin. They’ve made numerous upgrades to the roster to continue building a contender around Jayden Daniels. If they’re going to fulfill their championship aspirations, Washington can’t afford to lose such a key player in McLaurin.

While the Commanders aren’t intent on trading McLaurin, it remains unclear when he’ll be signed to a new long-term commitment.
