New Orleans Saints Emerge Again as Aaron Rodgers Suitors After Former Teammate Speaks Out

Throughout the course of the 2025 NFL offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers have been connected constantly. While the two sides still are expected to come to an agreement by most, that may not happen.

Rodgers would be a legitimate option for any quarterback-needy team. There is another team out there who badly needs a new starting quarterback for the 2025 season.

After Derek Carr announced his retirement from the NFL due to a shoulder injury, the New Orleans Saints are stuck with three young and unproven options. They have Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough, and Jake Haener currently involved in the upcoming competition.

Obviously, those three quarterbacks are not ideal starters for the 2025 season if the Saints want to try and compete. Signing Rodgers would be a much more competitive option.

While the national media and most fans are still watching the Steelers and Rodgers, one of the quarterback’s former favorite teammates has spoken out and made it clear that his eyes are on New Orleans.

James Jones, the former wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers and a beloved teammate of Rodgers, spoke out recently on top in a segment on “The Facility.”

“The call should have been made when Derek Carr said, ‘Hey, man, I’m not feeling this shoulder and it’s time for me to be with my wife and kids,'” Jones said. “They should have been calling Aaron Rodgers. If Aaron Rodgers walked into the New Orleans building right now, he’s the best quarterback in the division and gives you a chance to win. They absolutely should make the call to Aaron Rodgers and ask, ‘What’s your plan?’ If you come over here, you’re in the dome. The division is weak, and you have a chance.”

In addition, Jones pointed out the weapons that the Saints have to offer Rodgers. Chris Olave, Alvin Kamara, and Brandin Cooks were the three names he mentioned. New Orleans also have Rashid Shaheed and Juwan Johnson on the roster.

During the 2024 NFL season, Rodgers proved he can still power an offense. He completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Adding that production into the Saints’ offense would make them dangerous.

Only time will tell, but New Orleans could make for an intriguing landing spot for Rodgers. The Saints may not have interest, but it’s a scenario to keep a close eye on.
