New York Winter Weather, Snow Forecast—Live Tracker
While New York City is experiencing relatively mild winter conditions on Tuesday, the region is expected to see snow later this week, according to the National Weather Service.
Why It Matters
With fluctuating temperatures and a complex weather pattern ahead, residents should prepare for shifting conditions. These conditions may impact travel and daily activities, particularly during morning and evening commutes.
Snow and ice can disrupt travel, creating dangerous driving conditions, the National Weather Service (NWS) warns, while winter storms may also cause power outages. Freezing temperatures may pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants and older adults.

What To Know
Despite the mild start, which saw New York City at a high of 43°F, colder air is expected in the coming days, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and rain to the region.
According to the NWS, a chance of snow and sleet is expected to develop late on Wednesday with up to half an inch of accumulation possible. The storm is intensifying on Thursday with a mix of precipitation, including rain in some areas. On Thursday, mixed precipitation is expected, with snow and sleet turning into rain by late morning.
According to the local ABC News affiliate, accumulations will range from a coating to 2 inches in New York City and 1-3 inches north and west with higher elevations possibly getting more than 3 inches.
The storm is expected to be out of the area by early afternoon on Thursday. However, another storm is expected to move into the area on Saturday afternoon with another wintry mix.
What People Are Saying
NWS New York, NY office said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday: “Snow develops early Thursday morning, mixing with ice in some areas before tapering as plain rain or drizzle into the afternoon. Expect hazardous travel conditions during the Thursday morning commute!”
NWS New York, NY office said on X on Tuesday: “While temperatures are forecast to rise above normal this afternoon, a gusty northwest flow will make it feel like it is in the lower 30s. Winds likely gust up to 30-35 mph through the afternoon.”
Tom Kines, an AccuWeather senior meteorologist said: “It’s probably going to come in as some snow and sleet, and then change over to freezing rain; then eventually rain, if not late tomorrow (Wednesday) night then certainly during the day on Thursday.”
What Happens Next
As February progresses, the forecast suggests alternating periods of mild and wintry conditions. Residents should remain prepared for changing weather, particularly on Thursday, when snow and sleet may cause morning disruptions before transitioning to rain.
Authorities recommend keeping an eye on updated forecasts and advisories to navigate the evolving winter conditions in the region.
