The NFL requires teams to be up front and honest when it comes to a player’s availability for any game. This news is especially prevalent after the shocking NBA story that has rocked the sports world.
The Baltimore Ravens had Lamar Jackson as a full participant and questionable, but he was participating on the scout team. On Saturday, the team came out and changed him to a ‘limited’ participant, and they ruled him out of the game Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced the league would be investigating the Ravens for how they handled Jackson’s status.
The Ravens posted on social media, announcing that they were changing his status on X.
The NFL’s injury report policy began in 1947 when then-commissioner Bert Bell made it with the hopes of sending a major blow to bettors across the country.
In 2019, the Ravens’ rival Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin were fined for what the league deemed as not ‘accurately defining Ben Roethlisberger’s injury status in a game that season.
Jackson left the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4, and he has missed the last two games dealing with the hamstring injury. Cooper Rush had filled in for him the last two games, and the team has scored only 13 points in the losses to the Houston Texans and the Los Angeles Rams.
On Friday, the Ravens announced that they were bringing up quarterback Tyler Huntley off the practice squad onto their active roster.
It has been a tough season in Baltimore, and this news is only going to lead to more negative news for the team. Something like this is never a good thing, but the timing of this is especially bad for the Ravens organization with the news from the NBA.
This was a team that entered the season with major Super Bowl expectations. However, at 1-5 and now with this, the 2025 season for the Ravens couldn’t be going any worse.
Huntley will get the start against the Bears, but this is definitely not the end of this story moving forward.
