NY Giants Free Agent Target Will Meet With NFC Team

Gabe Davis’s NFL free agency tour will continue this week, as the former fourth-round pick is reportedly set to meet with another NFC team.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Davis is paying a visit to the New Orleans Saints. That visit comes shortly after Davis met with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Rapoport didn’t turn up the temperature on a potential Davis-Saints pairing, he noted that the veteran wideout is simply a “potential offensive addition” for the team.

The New York Giants were on Davis’s list of visits this offseason. According to NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton, Davis paid a visit to the Giants and the San Francisco 49ers. The Giants insider doesn’t suggest that New York’s lack of movement on signing Davis is a sign they are moving on from the idea, but the progress from one New York’s current pass-catchers is a sign they might be content.

“With NYG, Jalin Hyatt has done well so far in OTAs,” Stapleton reported. “It’ll be interesting to see if [the] Giants stay involved with Davis.”

In 2020, Davis was wrapping up a three-year run at UCF. He appeared in 34 NCAA games, catching 152 passes for over 2,400 yards and 23 touchdowns.

He became the 128th overall pick, landing with the Buffalo Bills. Throughout four seasons with the Bills, Davis came down with 163 catches. He totaled 2,730 yards and scored 27 touchdowns. After averaging seven touchdowns per season throughout his first four years, Davis earned himself a nice payday in free agency.

Last year, Davis signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year contract, worth a reported $39 million. He played in just 10 games for the Jaguars. Over that span, Davis caught 20 of his 42 targets for 239 yards. He scored a career-low two touchdowns. In November, Davis suffered a knee injury, which ended his season prematurely.

The Jaguars released Davis last month. Although he’s left searching for a new team, Davis is well off financially, as he secured a $24 million guarantee from the Jaguars. According to Rapoport, the financial aspects of the deal Davis inked last year should make it slightly easier for a team to lure in Davis as a one-year rental.

Last season, the Giants received a 1,200-yard season out of Malik Nabers. Wan’Dale Robinson came second in total yards, coming up just one yard shy of 700. Darius Slayton was third on the list, with 573 yards. As for the 23-year-old Jalin Hyatt, he caught eight of his 19 targets for 62 yards and zero touchdowns.

The Giants will be a team to keep an eye on as Davis remains unsigned at this time.
