NY Giants Wide Receivers Open Up on Russell Wilson’s Impact

Last season, the New York Giants’ wide receiver core didn’t have much consistency when it came to the quarterback position. Following a busy offseason, the front office made sure that isn’t the case in 2025. As training camp gets underway, multiple players opened up on the impact of the team’s most notable acquisition.

Following a one-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Russell Wilson found himself in search of a new home in free agency. Despite trading into the first round of the NFL Draft to take a QB, they still decided to sign the veteran. Wilson is expected to serve as a stopgap this season before Jaxson Dart takes the reins.

As a former Super Bowl winner, Wilson brings some much-needed experience to a young Giants squad. His presence is already leaving a mark on the team, as guys have praised him at the start of camp. Earlier this week, Darius Slayton touched on how different New York’s offense is with Wilson leading the charge.

“Probably just some clarity. He’s been playing football for a long time,” Slayton said of Wilson. “So he knows what’s worked for him in his career. What he likes, doesn’t like. That makes it really simple on all us to be able to be on the same page as him.”

Another person to speak out about Wilson is fellow wide receiver Malik Nabers. He praised the heightened level of leadership the veteran QB has brought to the Giants.

“He’s a great leader,” Nabers said. “He’s one of those quarterbacks that gets everybody going. We needed that in the huddle today, kind of started off slow. With Russ, leadership, we picked things up at the end.”

It goes without saying how important it is for the Giants’ receivers to be getting along with Wilson. Nabers is aiming to be a focal point of the offense after a strong rookie season, and Slayton is looking to bounce back from a down year in 2024. Seeing that they are already clicking with Wilson, New York’s offense should be a far more cohesive unit this season.

Coming off a season where multiple players started at QB, the Giants were seeking stability under center when they signed Wilson. Based on these recent comments, the decision to bring him in seems to be yielding early dividends.
