Olympic Star Alysa Liu Gets Insane Mural Courtesy of an LA Art Legend
It’s safe to say that United States Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu has become a household name across the country.
The California native was a dominant force during the 2026 Winter Olympics. She earned two gold medals — one as a singles performer and another as a part of the U.S. team gold. Liu was the first American female performer to win a figure skating medal in 20 years. She also was the first gold medalist in 24 years for good measure.
Liu captivated audiences with her charisma, flair, personality, and unbelievable talent. At only 20 years old, Liu’s pathway to this point was far from easy. A participant in the 2022 Winter Olympics as a 16-year-old, a disappointing performance led to her retiring from the sport.

Liu became a student at UCLA (where she still attends) and took a much-needed break from the sport. However, the itch to return to competition ultimately was too much to ignore, and Liu reemerged in a most spectacular way.
While she is a native of Northern California, Los Angeles has become her adopted home. It’s quite common to see murals of notable athletes and pop culture figures throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
A mural of Liu had begun circulating across social media platforms. The imagery depicted her iconic shot where she was gleefully ‘biting’ into one of the gold medals she had won.

As fate would have it, the mural was being crafted by none other than Gustavo Zermeño Jr. Aka gz.jr. The famed muralist has long been a fixture in the Los Angeles art scene. He often immortalizes figures that have made major impacts on the city. Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle are two of his more prominent examples.
In this case, the famous Bruin will be showcased for all to see at the location of 15532 Crenshaw Blvd in the Los Angeles hamlet of Gardena.
