Packers Could Reunite With Notable Free Agent
Through the first two weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers are looking the part of a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
After defeating both the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders, the Packers hold a 2-0 record. Their blockbuster trade for Micah Parsons has already paid dividends even without the superstar pass rusher being given his full workload.
Heading into Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay has become one of the most talked about teams in the league.

With that being said, general manager Brian Gutekunst is always looking for ways to improve the roster. One option may have become available.

ESPN’s Mike Clay has suggested that the Packers could sign veteran safety Darnell Savage Jr. following his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday.
“Tough free agency miss by the Jags,” Clay wrote. “Packers reunion? They love their safety depth.”
Savage had some great moments during his first stint with Green Bay. He could make sense as a reunion candidate for the Packers. More depth in the secondary is always something the team has prioritized.
Last season with the Jaguars, Savage played in 13 games. He recorded 51 total tackles to go along with an interception and six defended passes.
Of course, Savage was the player who came through with the epic 64-yard pick-six against Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in the Wild Card matchup back in 2023.
This could be something worth monitoring for Green Bay fans. Savage is still more than capable of playing a role, especially as a backup. On a one-year deal, it would make perfect sense for both the Packers and Savage.

Right now, Green Bay has Evan Williams and Xavier McKinney as their starting safeties. Behind those two players, they have Zayne Anderson and Kitan Oladapo. Gutekunst likely isn’t panicking with that room, but adding Savage would be quality insurance.
It will be interesting to see where the 28-year-old safety ends up landing. The Packers may not end up being the team to sign him, but the move would be the kind of addition that Green Bay has tended to make during the season.
