Packers Player’s Controversial QB Hit Draws Sizable Fine From NFL
The Green Bay Packers beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 on the road last Sunday in a game that was too close for comfort.
The Cardinals simply weren’t able to hold off the Packers’ late rally. During that matchup, the Cardinals had the ball for eight minutes longer than the Packers and out-gained them 330-262.
During NFL games, there’s typically some sort of drama on the field, and the Packers-Cardinals showdown was no exception. Following the contest, one Packers player was hit with punishment from the NFL for his actions against Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Each week during the NFL’s regular season, the league penalizes players for their actions in the previous week’s games. The NFL states on their official website that these actions are “to protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures.”
In the NFL’s report for Week 7, Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker was given a $17,389 fine for a hit on the quarterback (blow to the head/neck).
The NFL is cracking down on actions against quarterbacks; hence, the large fine for Walker, who was the only player fined for a hit on a quarterback during Week 7.
According to the NFL, those fines will go to the Professional Athletes Foundation to “support legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”
Josh Sweat of the Arizona Cardinals was also hit for a fine for the Packers game. He has to pay $11,593 for an unnecessary roughness violation (facemask).
