Parliament adopts amendments to Labour Code

Parliament passed legislation amending the Labour Code and adopting European Parliament and European Commission directives on the EU minimum wage on Tuesday.

Member states are to ratify the EU directives by November 15.

Under the amendment to the Labour Code, the government is authorised to declare by decree the forum eligible for consultation on minimum wages.

Further, companies must consult workers’ councils if the ratio of foreign employees reaches 5 percent, and after every 5 percent increase, under the amendment.

Proposals submitted by the legislative committee in connection with the Paks nuclear power plant’s upgrade and the Budapest-Belgrade rail line construction projects said that, as the two projects have “special labour needs”, third-country nationals working there should receive work permits for 5 years rather than the general validity of three years. They would also be entitled to apply for family reunification.
