Pasta Recall Map Shows New Warning Issued in 15 States
Albertsons Companies is recalling select store-made deli items that were supplied by Fresh Creative Foods over fears that the products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an alert by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says.
The products contain a previously recalled bowtie pasta ingredient manufactured by Nate’s Fine Foods in Roseville, California, the alert warns.
Newsweek reached out to Albertsons via phone call for comment Tuesday night but could not immediately reach a representative to leave a message.
Why It Matters
Numerous public health alerts and recalls have been initiated this year because of the potential for damaged products, foodborne illness, contamination and undeclared food allergens.
Millions of Americans experience food sensitivities or allergies every year. According to the FDA, the nine “major” food allergens in the United States are eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts and peanuts.
The alert warns that listeria “is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.”
What To Know
The alert says that the recalled products were sold in Albertsons, Albertsons Market, Amigos, Andronico’s Community Markets, Carrs-Safeway, Eagle, Pak ‘N Save, Pavilions, Market Street, Randalls, Safeway, Tom Thumb and Vons stores.
The states impacted by the recall are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming, according to the alert.
The alert lists the products’ names, UPC numbers, sizes, sell-through dates, store banner names and states for the affected products.
There have been no reported adverse reactions or injuries “due to consumption of these products,” the alert notes.
Below is a map of the impacted states:
What People Are Saying
The alert in part: “Consumers who have purchased these items are urged not to consume these products and to dispose of them or return the items to their local store for a full refund. The FDA recommends in these cases that anyone who purchased or received any recalled products to use extra vigilance in cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces and containers that may have come in contact with these products to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Listeria monocytogenes can survive in refrigerated temperatures and can easily spread to other foods and surfaces.”
What Happens Next
People who have purchased the recalled pasta products are advised to dispose of them or return them for a refund, the alert says.
Those with additional questions may contact the Albertsons Companies’ Customer Service Center at 1-877-723-3929 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT weekdays.
